Herbal Medicine

Herbal medicine is different from the western medications your pet has been prescribed as it maintains the benefits of the whole plant part rather than just a single active ingredient or synthetic chemical. Herbal formulas contain ingredients that work together to treat disease as well mitigate potential side effects from the herbs.

Herbal medicine can be used to help alleviate pain, treat cancer and the side effects of other cancer treatments, and maximize internal organ health.

It is also often used for the treatment of skin diseases such as atopy (allergic skin disease), auto-immune conditions such as immune-mediated anemias and thrombocytopenia, endocrine diseases, gastrointestinal disease, liver disease and kidney disease.

Many acupuncturists choose to combine acupuncture with herbal medicine because the use of herbs enhances the effectiveness of acupuncture.

Most oral herbal formulas require twice-daily administration mixed or given with a meal.  The formulas are available in capsules if your pet will not take the powder mixed with the food.  

Many chronic conditions such as arthritis will require longer term usage of herbal medicine.
